Safety Data Sheet

The infection is caused by Toxoplasma gondii a protozoon that is prevalent in warm-blooded animals and transferable to humans. The difference between common inapparent Toxoplasma infections and relatively rare Toxoplasmosis is clinically relevant.

The infection is significant especially for pregnant women since in case of primary infections during gravidity, intrauterine transmission of the parasite to the unborn child is possible.

SERION ELISA classic Toxoplasma gondii IgG/IgM are qualitative and quantitative tests for detection of human antibodies in serum or plasma against Toxoplasma gondii. The IgM-ELISA is used for the determination of an acute infection with Toxoplasma gondii. The IgG-ELISA is used to determine the serological status. Furthermore, the SERION ELISA classic Rubella Virus IgM is also evaluated for the detection of antibodies in neonatal blood samples. The test can be combined with the established neonatal screening, which is a test for the detection of metabolic diseases because for the performance of both methods dried blood spots (DBS diameter 1/8 inch resp. 3.2 mm) are necessary.
