Triggered by systemic bacterial infections sepsis is amongst the most common causes of death in ICU patients. Starting with an effective antibiotic treatment as early as possible is crucial for patient survival. Gold standard methods take 24 hours to generate reliable antibiotic resistance profiles. The collaborative research project “SeptoSurvive” aims to reduces this period to 4 – 6 hours.

Our contribution is the design and development of bead-based components for pathogen isolation from patient samples.
